The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made it a requirement for all public water systems to identify the materials used to connect the customer’s water service line to the city’s water main. The City of Silex, in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), is working to identify potential sources of lead in drinking water.
The City of Silex has contracted All Clear Pumping & Sewer to conduct a Lead Service Line Inventory to determine the material of the customer-owned portion of the service line. This will be done by potholing near the water meter and/or being visually inspected. Visual inspections do require entering the premises with the homeowner’s permission to take pictures of the material (copper, galvanized steel, PVC, PEX) and testing solder if any is present.
We expect this project to begin the week of September 9, 2026.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this project and if any lead is found to be on your premises, you will be notified.
Thank you.
